我歌唱一個(gè)人的自身
One’S-SelF I sing—a simple, separate Person;
Yet utter the word Democratic, the word En-masse.
Of Physiology from top to toe I sing;
Not physiognomy alone, nor brain alone, is worthy for the muse—I say the
Form complete is worthier far;
The Female equally with the male I sing.
Of Life immense in passion, pulse, and power,
Cheerful—for freest action form’d, under the laws divine,
The Modern Man I sing.
我歌唱一個(gè)人的自身、一個(gè)單一的個(gè)別的人、
不過(guò)要用民主的這個(gè)詞、全體這個(gè)詞的聲音。
我歌唱從頭到腳的生理學(xué)，
我說(shuō)不單只外貌和腦子，整個(gè)形體更值得歌吟，
而且，與男性平等，我也歌唱女性。
我歌唱現(xiàn)代的人，
那情感、意向和能力上的巨大生命，
他愉快、能采取合乎神圣法則的最自由的行動(dòng)。
