　　Meeting at Night

　　The gray sea and the long black land；

　　And the yellow half-moon large and low；

　　And the startled little waves that leap

　　In fiery ringlets from their sleep,

　　As I gain the cove with pushing prow,

　　And quench its speed i’ the slushy sand．

　　Then a mile of warm sea-scented beach

　　Three fields to cross till a farm appears；

　　A tap at the pane, the quick sharp scratch

　　And blue spurt of a lighted match,

　　And a voice less loud, thro’ its joys and fears,

　　驚喜又惶恐；

　　燈照心里亮，

　　情比夜色濃。

　　羅伯特·布朗寧(Robert Browning 1812—1889)英國(guó)詩(shī)人 詩(shī)的標(biāo)題為 “夜會(huì)”,可是通篇都只是描述前去赴約的`過(guò)程,直到最后也未直接顯示 “會(huì)面” 的鏡頭。但詩(shī)的末行 “the two hearts beating each to each (兩顆心相對(duì)著跳動(dòng))” 這朦朧的一筆卻間接地點(diǎn)明了夜會(huì)的高潮。譯作結(jié)尾借景言情,與原作異曲同工。
